The Sailing Club conducted its Skippers Meeting on May 2, 2020 via Zoom. There were 15 participants in the meeting. A summary of the outcomes of the meeting are:
• The Spring Series races will start at Johnson Point to avoid operating a Committee Boat.
• Starting times for all races this season will be 1:00 PM.
• The Club is looking for volunteers to become Senior Race Officer (SRO) to take over from Bill Mamel and Ray Taylor. Training sessions are planned for the volunteers.
• A calendar will be placed on the website for the people to sign up for Committee Boat and Safety Boat tasks for the races.
• Bert van Domselaar, with the help of Steve Short, will set the marks. David Martin and Greg Downer can help as well. Bert and Bruce Keyser will check the condition of the marks.
• Mary Anne, with the help of Yvonne Short, will investigate the conduct of an online Sailing School.

The weather has remained a bit cool, but it promises to warm up soon! We propose taking advantage of expected nice weather on Sunday, May 3 to have everyone out on the lake to enjoy it. How about everyone in the club bring their boat (whatever it is!) out around 2:00 PM and say “Hello” from a safe distance?

On Saturday, April 11 the Spring Shoreline Kayak Tour took place led by Ben Benjamin. Despite the temperatures of low 40F (!!) at the start at 8 am, several brave kayakers came out to join Ben in the tour. It was a bit of a chilly start, but it warmed up nicely. The participants in the tour were Rae-Lynn Ziegler, Paul Brezinski, Tracey Cicatelli and Wendel Kronis. Joel Martin provided support in the Safety Boat. The complete tour around the lake was 12.4 miles and took 4 1/2 hours.

The 2020 Sailing Club season is coming up, and, while it appears that early-season social events will be impacted by the coronavirus, we’re looking forward to an exciting one on the water! Our first event is a Spring Shoreline Kayak Tour conducted by Ben Benjamin on April 11. More publicity on this event is below.
It’s time to renew your membership (still $25). Please send your check made out to the Seven Lakes Sailing Club to our treasurer, Nancy Workman, 3420 Seven Lakes West. Please, leave a note with your address, latest phone number and email address with the check. It will allow us to update our membership administration.
We had hoped to have the season kickoff BYOB for our club members on April 25, but coronavirus precautions will almost certainly prevent that. More info on social events will be communicated.
