SUBMITTING AND CREATING YOUR ADVENTURE

Create your Adventure in whatever text editor you prefer, like Microsoft Word. Now, highlight the entire Adventure and copy it. Next, using an application like Notepad (It comes bundled with all Microsoft Products.), paste your Adventure into it. Copy your Adventure, again. (I'm sorry to make you do this, but Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. add a HUGE - and I mean huge - amount of nonsense coding that can cripple a site and applications like Notepad will strip it out.)

Login to the site. Click "Submit an Article", which opens a submission form. That form has 3 sections: Editor, Publishing and Metadata. Paste your article into the "Editor" Section. You do not need to mess with the other sections.

If you have submitted photos to be included in your Adventure, there is an  icon in the second row above or you can use the "Image" button on the bottom left. Clicking it will open a window with the image folders. Navigate to "Sailing Adventures", then to your Adventure folder. Open it and select the image you want inserted in the location you've chosen in your Adventure. (Note: Images that you wish to include must be emailed to the Webmaster so that a folder for them may be created and the images uploaded into that folder for you.) This window will allow you to position the image and apply spacing around it. To review your work, click the "Preview" button above. If you wish to edit the position or size of your image, left click the image, which will re-open the "Image Properties" window. Make your changes.

Once you comfortable with the look of your Adventure, click "Submit". Once reviewed by the our Editor it will be published to public view.

TIPS
  • Only Registered Members can submit information
  • If you have inserted an image into your Adventure and can't delete ii in the window. Make sure it is highlighted/outlined and click the "Delete" key on your keyboard.
  • The page editor shows text as center aligned, however it saves as left aligned text. Regardless, you can use the "left align" or "justify" button above to set how text is laid out.
  • When images are inserted, this system used a "pop up" window to navigate to the image you want. If you have "pop ups" disallowed, the window won't open; you'll receive a notification at the top of the window asking you what you want to do. I recommend that you set the Club's website address as a "Trusted" website.
  • Once an article/Adventure is submitted, you wiill not be able to edit further. For small changes, send a note to Kathy Kirst; for large changes create a new article and resubmit it. In this case you will want to send a note to Kathy letting her know what you have done. She will delete the earlier information.

SUBMITTING YOUR ADVENTURE PHOTOS

Email all photos you would like to have in your Adventure to the Webmaster. Before sending them, they will need to be reduced in size. The largest image the page will accept is 450 pixels wide. Height is not an issue. However, at that size, it will fill the width of the page and won't allow you to surround it with text - like you would see in a newpaper or other publication. I recommend your images be no larger than 250 pixels wide.

Also, the best image format for the web is a jpeg file. More than likely this is the format your digital photos will be in, so all you'll have to do is resze them. Most computers come with some sort of image editor and even the most basic editor can resize your images.

You can resize them further if you need to - right on the page after they've been inserted. Once inserted, a photo can be resizeed to fit better on the page and within the text. Simply grab a corner of the image and move that corner towards the center of the image until you like how it "fits" on the page. Viola! you're done.

As with all things "Web", if you have any questions or require assistance, give the Webmaster a call or contact via email.
