Turtle Trophy

There is a “flip” side to sailing. . . literally. . . and the club has traditionally awarded a trophy for it. . . capsizing that is. . . all the way upside down. It’s the SLSC “turtle” trophy, custom-made by George Habicht in 1998. It resides in the possession of its annual winner until a new winner is announced the following year. It’s one of the club’s most hotly contested awards. Scoring is arbitrary, but extra points are given for thoroughness, frequency, and spectacle.

Nikki Trophy

Instituted in 2001 by Gloria Williams, awarded to a behind-the-scenes person deemed to have made extraordinary contributions to the Club. It is named for Nick, the Golden retriever who was well-known on Lake Auman as Gus Gustafson’s faithful crew. The trophy was made by George Habicht and it resides in the possession of its winner until a new winner is announced the following year.
